Hello Band Students and Parents!
Band Camp 2026 is in the books! Thanks to all the students for working so hard, to the parent volunteers for helping with uniforms and hydration, and anyone else who made this week a success. If this is our starting point, you’re all in for a treat this year!
I wanted to remind you about 3 performance opportunities we have coming up (they were included in the calendar that came home to you last spring). While these performances are not graded, the expectation is that if you can be there you should be there. It’s also a great way to give back to our community for the support they show our music program. These 3 performances will count toward earning a Varsity letter in band. For more information on earning a band letter, see page 12 of last year’s band handbook (new one to come soon). They will also be great practice for us before our first home football game on September 4 and Husky Band Day on September 12!
Tuesday, August 18 – District Kickoff Celebration (**NEW TIME**)
This is an annual event we perform at for district staff to celebrate the start to the school year, but the timing is slightly different than last year. Students will need to arrive in the band room no later than 9:45am in their pep band t-shirts. We will perform on the balcony in the commons with the cheer team from 10:00 until about 10:15 while staff from all around the district watch. Students will be released at 10:15.
Thursday, August 20 – HHES Community Fair
This is another annual performance, and what a great way to get those elementary students excited about band!
Students will need to meet at Hockinson Heights Elementary School at 4:45pm in their pep band t-shirts and hats (stop by the band room at 4:30pm if you need your instrument). We will perform in courtyard near the playground with the cheer team from 5 until about 5:30pm while students and families arrive to tour the campus, meet teachers, and visit booths from different community organizations. Parking can be tight at HHES, so if you can carpool or get dropped off and picked up that would be great.
Monday, August 24 – Red Carpet Welcome
This is a fun tradition! On the first day of school, students entering the building would be greeted by the band/cheerleaders and walk through a “tunnel” of band students on their way into the building for their first day. Students will need to arrive at school around 8:15am and set up to play starting at about 8:30am until the start of 1st period (I have assurances tardies will be excused if it takes a couple minutes to put your instruments away!). I realize some students are at the mercy of a bus schedule, but if you drive yourself or are able to get a ride we could use your help. If you ride the bus, please join us outside the building as soon as your bus arrives. No pep band shirts or uniforms are necessary…I want to see those spiffy first day of school outfits!
Saturday, September 12 – Husky Band Day
Please click here to view information on our performance at Husky Band Day in Seattle. Complete the permission slip by September 1. Please note there is a special link in the permission slip to purchase discounted tickets if parents/friends/families are interested in attending the game!
FinalForms Reminder
Please take a moment before the start of school to fill out your student’s emergency information in FinalForms. This is a district-required step to participate in any activity at HHS, and the best part is that once you register once you can use the same information for any sport or activity you participate in at HHS.
If you already have a FinalForms account and have completed the forms for this school year, simply login and select your student’s band class. As a reminder:
- Only those who auditioned for Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band and were accepted should join those classes.
- All percussionists are in Percussion Ensemble
- All other band students are in Symphonic Band
If you are new to FinalForms, use the links below to get started.
