Corey McEnry is a National Board Certified Teacher and serves as Director of Bands at Hockinson High School, where he leads a comprehensive band program that includes Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, marching and pep band, and beginning band. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University and his master’s degree from Sam Houston State University.

Mr. McEnry has represented District 1 on the Camas School District Board of Directors since 2018. A third-generation Camas graduate, he remains deeply connected to the community that shaped his own musical journey.

Mr. McEnry began playing the saxophone at age 10 and later served for two years as drum major of the Camas High School Marching Band. He graduated with honors from Camas High School in 2003 and was awarded both the John Philip Sousa Award and the United States Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award as the school’s outstanding senior band member.

Mr. McEnry began his teaching career as band director at Hockinson Middle School in 2008 and became Director of Bands at Hockinson High School later that year. His additional teaching experience includes choir, guitar, and History of Rock and Roll. Throughout his career, Mr. McEnry has focused on creating a band program where students can challenge themselves musically, discover their strengths, develop leadership skills, and build friendships that last far beyond their years in school.

Under his direction, the Hockinson High School Band program has grown into one of the region’s most successful small-school band programs, with approximately one in six Hockinson High School students participating in band. Hockinson High School ensembles have received numerous honors, including being seven-time recipients of the Outstanding Music Program Award at the Columbia Basin College Band Festival. The HHS Jazz Band has earned multiple first-place finishes at prestigious festivals, including the Clark College Jazz Festival, where Hockinson regularly competes in divisions alongside larger schools. The Jazz Band was invited to perform at the 2018 National Association for Music Education Northwest Division Conference. The Hockinson High School Marching Band has earned the Sweepstakes Award twice at the Portland Rose Festival Starlight Parade.

Beyond awards and performances, the heart of the Hockinson Band program is its students. Band members are involved in athletics, advanced academic courses, leadership activities, and countless other opportunities throughout Hockinson High School. The program welcomes students of all experience levels and provides opportunities for every student to grow, whether they are performing in their first concert, leading a section, competing at festivals, or representing Hockinson on a national stage.

Through the Hockinson Band program, students have performed in some of the nation’s most recognizable venues and destinations, including five performances at Disneyland, appearances at Universal Studios, performances in Washington, D.C., and two performance tours to Honolulu. The band was also selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2020 before the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More recently, students have participated in major performance experiences including a Disney Soundtrack Recording Session and performances at the Disneyland Resort. These opportunities allow students to share their music with audiences around the country while creating memories and friendships that last a lifetime.

Mr. McEnry is a co-founder and co-host of the North County Honor Band. In 2014, he was named a Hockinson School District “Real Hero” by the LEARN Here Project, and in 2024 he received the Lower Columbia Region Outstanding Music Educator Award from the Washington Music Educators Association.

Outside of school, Mr. McEnry enjoys spending time with his wife, Kristin, their daughter, Molly, and their golden retrievers, Ella and Stevie.
