Band Camp Starts August 8!

Dear HHS Band Students and Parents,

After a fantastic Drumline Day today (thanks for all your great work, drummers), I’m excited to get to our weeklong band camp on Monday!  As a reminder, camp runs Monday thru Friday from 9am to 4pm.  Below are just a few reminders about the week.  As always please do not hesitate to email me with any questions.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Marching/pep band instrument
  • Pencil
  • 3 ring binder with at least 10 clear sheet protectors
  • Instrument lyre and flip folder with at least 20 flip folder pages
    • Many schools in our area have band camp the same week as us and many music stores run out of these items quickly.  The sooner you get your lyre and flip folder, the better.  I also recommend you bring your instrument with you if possible to try the lyre on your instrument, as some lyres can be slightly too big or small.
  • Water bottle (we will have cold water and Gatorade for you to fill your bottles with throughout the day)
  • Sunscreen
  • Lunch
ATTIRE:  Please be sure to wear appropriate attire.  Dress for the weather (school dress code appropriate) and wear CLOSED-TOE ATHLETIC SHOES.  Hats or sunglasses are also appropriate.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  I know you’re being barraged with emails about parent helpers for uniform fittings on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but it’s because the job is so important and we are VERY short-staffed.  You don’t need any special skills to help (other than being able to read and using your hands and arms to grab stuff off a shelf or table).  A little help goes a long way.  Please visit this link to sign up for a shift.  Please and thank you!

ICE CREAM AND PARENT MEETING:  The HHS Music Boosters and I will be hosting a parent meeting at the conclusion of camp on THURSDAY (that way anyone trying to get out of town on Friday can get going right away when camp is over).  Ice cream and soda (possibly combined) will be provided.  Please plan on staying after camp for about 20 to 30 minutes to learn about some of the ways we need your help during the year.  We will have opportunities to sign up for jobs large or small, one-time tasks and ongoing commitments.  Please try and sign up for at least one job for the entire 180-day school year.

SCHOOL INSTRUMENTS:  If you’re renting a school instrument for marching or concert band, EVEN IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE INSTRUMENT IN YOUR POSSESSION, please plan on showing up on Monday at least 15 minutes early to take care of paperwork.  A parent/guardian signature is needed, so please bring a parent if at all possible.  The $100 rental payment can’t be paid until the ASB office opens on August 15 (and must be paid before the first football game on 9/2), but I must have the paperwork signed BEFORE you can use the instrument.  If you would like to speed up the process or can’t have a parent there to sign the form, you can fill the form out ahead of time by clicking here.

SHOES:  All students need the black MTX marching shoe.  If you are a returning student and your shoes still fit, please bring them on Monday to put in your uniform bag.  If you’re a new student or have outgrown your existing shoes, please be sure to fill out this form and turn it in with payment NO LATER THAN THE END OF CAMP FRIDAY.

FORMAL WEAR:  All Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble members need to have a tuxedo or dress.  If you are returning to one of those groups please be sure to try on your formal wear before Wednesday.  Representatives from Mr. Formal will be at camp on Wednesday to size anyone who needs to purchase a tuxedo (or any part of a tuxedo).  Those wearing dresses don’t need to be sized, but should plan on ordering a dress online.  Please see this form for more information on tuxes and dresses.

See you Monday!
