Wind Ensemble Audition Information

Dear Students and Parents,

Beginning Monday, May 27 the Hockinson High School Band will be holding auditions for next year’s Wind Ensemble.  All interested students currently enrolled in either Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band are invited and encouraged to audition.  Current 8th graders (next year’s freshmen) may be invited to audition by Mr. McEnry or Mrs. Ritenburgh on a space-available basis.  Auditions will serve the dual purposes of deciding who is accepted into Wind Ensemble and the order for chair placement.

Please see the Wind Ensemble Audition Sign-Up sheet on the band room office door to schedule a time to audition.  Auditions will be held during and after school, as well as during Focus.  Please show up AT LEAST 10 MINUTES EARLY to your scheduled audition time.

All auditions will be assessed based on timing, accuracy, tone, style, and student attitude, and consist of the following elements:

v  Play 2 of your 12 major scales from memory (drawn at random from a hat) in quarter notes (120 BPM)

v  The two WIBC audition pieces:  “Danny Boy” and one other piece specific to your instrument.  Please go to http://www.bandworld.org/WIBC/View.aspx?p=WIBC_Audition to print this music, or follow the link on the band website www.hockinsonmusic.com.

v  A short sightreading excerpt

Please print and sign the audition letter found on the band website and bring it to your audition.

Please remember:  Students accepted into Wind Ensemble are expected to show the highest level of commitment to band.  All students will also be required to purchase a tuxedo or dress if accepted.  If you cannot commit to Wind Ensemble and would rather have a lower-stress experience playing in a band, that is okay!  We are happy to have you in Symphonic Band!

Good luck to all!  If you have any questions please feel free to call, email, or come see me in person!

Sincerely,

Corey McEnry
